| This
large wetland complex on Lake Poygan was protected by a rock breakwall
many years ago. Over time, the rock breakwall subsided into the
bottom sediment and waves began to overtop the structure. Hundreds
of acres of marsh were eroded away as waves were able to reach the
vulnerable shoreline.
To help fund the project our department
secured a grant through DNR's Targeted Runoff Management program.
The design called for additional rock to be placed on top of the existing
rock to rebuild the breakwall above the surface of the water. The
total length of the completed breakwall was 4,485 feet.
